Our Authority in Christ

Biblical Deliverance Ministries

Study nine

What God has to say about any matter is probably a lot different than what we would like to think He has to say. Often we could consider that when we have the Holy Spirit in us we can do anything, including ignoring the possibility of evil spirits having any effect on us. On the other hand we could ignore the fact that when the Holy Spirit entered us at Salvation, Jesus Christ gave us the authority to stand for Him. Both these stances are so dangerous, both to our families and us. Causing us all to fail to realise our potential in Him, or to reach the fullness of His life for us.

In the scriptures our God teaches us that we both have the authority and we are to use it Consider the teaching in Ephesians ch6 v10-18. Here we are told to put on the full armour of God. V12 specifically states that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. There are many sections of the armour which need to be considered, however, for this study we will only think about the shield of faith and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God.

V16 tells us why we should take up the shield of faith, WITH WHICH YOU CAN EXTINGUISH ALL THE FLAMING ARROWS OF THE EVIL ONE. Question:- Why should there be a need to do this if we cannot be touched???

V17 tells us why we should take up the sword of the spirit. Why would we need to take up a sword if we were not to do battle??? Yes we are to be both defensive and aggressive.

V18 tells us to pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind and all ways keep on praying for all the saints.

The simple truth of the matter is that we do need to realise that we are in a battle, we need to be active warriors for God and for the expansion of God’s kingdom

    Some pointers are:-

1/ Make our requests known unto God. Treat God for who He is. He is not a puppet He is not there to do our bidding. We should not try and manipulate the almighty God. He is there and He will answer our prayer requests. Some with a yes and some with a no. After all He is God and He knows what is best for us Simply ask God to lead you and protect you in this battle. To lead you in what you say and do. That your words will be His words and His words your words

2/ Speak quietly. Command the spirits, firmly and confidently. You don’t need to shout If you shout all you are doing is indicating that you are depending on noise rather than the power of God.

3/ Use the scriptures. Read out the portions of scripture where we are given authority. Some of these are

Luke ch9 v1-2 When Jesus had called the twelve together He gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases and He sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. Some would argue that this only applies to the twelve disciples but it is not so as you will see.

Luke ch10 v1--- After this the Lord appointed seventy two others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place where He was about to go. V9 Heal the sick who are there. V17-20 The seventy two returned with joy and said. "Lord even the demons submit to us in your name." He replied. "I saw satan (the opposer) fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy, nothing will harm you. However do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. Here we find that the authority is extended to those without it even being specified. They found out as they were led by the spirit in the work.

Mark ch16 v17--- And these signs will accompany those who believe. In My name they will drive out demons, they will speak in new tongues, they will pick up snakes in their hands, and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all, they will place their hands on sick people and they will get well. V20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere and the Lord worked with them and confirmed His word by the signs that accompanied it. Yes here we find the criteria is that you believe.

Use your authority that Jesus Christ has given you.

Use the Power that God almighty has given you.

Use the leading that the Holy Spirit has available to you.

Do not be afraid for Lo I AM with you all ways even unto the ends of the earth.
