Curses and Blessings Biblical Deliverance Ministries Study Eight We will now look at a concept taught in scripture, usually overlooked, and in some cases rejected. This subject is in regard to curses and blessings. It is important to remember that both these words are words which expect action and in some cases demand it. When we ask the Lord to bless someone we are actually asking Him to do something. The more specific we are the more specific the action. Similarly should we curse someone we are invoking spiritual forces to carry out that curse. However after thinking about all that it is important that we realise that Christ has the power to break the curses and quench the subsequent actions. To start this off let's look at Galatians ch3 v13-14 How does this affect the curse of sin. _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________
What are some of the blessings of God? Ephesians ch1 v7 _______________________________________________________ Ephesians ch1 v9-18 _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ 1 Corinthians ch2 v10-13 _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________
What was the first blessing? Genesis ch1 v28 _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________
In reality the blessings are still there only obstructed by the curses. What are the three separate curses shown in these verses. Genesis ch3 v14 _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ Genesis ch3 v16 _______________________________________________________ Genesis ch3 v17 _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________
What damage was done by these curses see v's23-25? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ What is meant by Proverbs ch26 v2 a______________________________________________________ Yes, if we are holy and unblemished and perfect in
every way we are beyond attack. It is important that we realise that the teaching here is also that wherever there is a curse in action there is a cause for it. In the business of deliverance we need to find the cause before we can be released from it. What happened in Genesis ch9 v25? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ In ch 12 v1-3 of the same book we are given a list of the blessings given to Abraham, one of which is a curse, and as we remember from reading Galatians ch3 v14 these blessings are passed on to us through Christ Jesus.
Deut ch27 v9------Deut ch28 What are some of these curses? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________
What is so significant about Deut ch23 v2 today? _______________________________________________________
What are some of these blessings? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ What do they depend on? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________
What is the curse in Jeremiah ch17 v5-6? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________
What happened in Joshua ch6 v26? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________
Now let's look at Mark ch11 v12-13 What did Jesus do to the fig tree which did not produce fruit? _______________________________________________________ And what happened to it the next day? _______________________________________________________ What did Jesus mean when He spoke to the disciples in Mark ch11 v20-22 _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ What do you think about the idea that Jesus Christ has given us the authority to pronounce curses as in Luke ch9 v5
In Genesis ch31 v32 we see that Jacob cursed the person who stole the goods. What was the curse? _______________________________________________________ In Genesis ch35 v16-19 we see the result. What was it? _______________________________________________________
This is an example of relationship authority. How should we speak of and to spouse and our children? _______________________________________________________
Galatians ch1 v6-10 shows very clearly how this is also operational in church leadership. How should we as leaders in the church speak or think of our church members? ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________
Matthew ch27 v24-25 I suppose this is the most significant self-imposed curse that history has ever known. Consider the implications of the outcome. In like manner each one of us can curse ourselves in our words and thoughts. Give some examples of how you may have cursed yourself over the last few days. ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________
There are many examples of curses made by God, by man on God's behalf, by man on satan's behalf.
James ch3 v14-16 shows us some everyday curses and the consequences. What do you think they are? ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________
James ch3 v17-18 shows us some everyday blessings and the consequences. What do you think they are? ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________
Deut ch28 v1-2 tells us Observe carefully the commands of God and all the blessings will come to you. Deut ch28 v15 tells us If you do not listen to God all the curses will come upon you. We should before closing off read again Galatians ch3 v13-14 where Christ on the cross dealt to the power of the curse and gave us the victory over the enemy so that we can inherit every spiritual blessing. Praise the Lord. Let us take up in confidence the authority God has offered to us. There are some general ways of doing this and a general pattern would be to: Recognise the source. Repent of any associated sin. Renounce the specific curse. Receive the freedom of Christ Jesus. Resist the temptation to allow any further claim on us.
There are many curses which are so specific that you may need help from someone gifted by the Spirit of God in areas of discernment of spirits. This type of person under the direction of the Holy Spirit and sometimes by direct revelation, should be able to guide you in your freedom. |
