The defilement of the temple of God Biblical Deliverance Ministries Study Six
After establishing the importance of leading a holy life in response to the love of God it is probably pertinent to consider an area of scripture which is invariably pushed to one side. That is: Can christians have demons? Many christians believe a premise, built on an assumption, and use it as a blind to pull down when we are confronted with a truth which we don't want to hear. It goes something like this. The major premise. All christians are indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The minor premise. The Holy Spirit as God cannot accept demons. The conclusion. Christians cannot have demons.
Similarly based on the same logic the second premise would be true. The major premise. All christians are indwelt with the Holy Spirit. The minor premise. The Holy Spirit cannot sin. The conclusion Christians cannot sin.
This of course is not true because christians do sin. Much as it is against the desire of Holy Spirit that we do so. And in similar fashion it is against the desire of the Holy Spirit for us to have any demons in us or attached to us, or even have a legal right to come and go as they please. May I remind those of you who have completed some of our previous studies that God has designed us with a free will. In so doing He gave us the choice of saying yes or no to the Holy Spirit's guidance even when it is only in the mind. And in like manner to say yes or no to the thought injections (fiery darts) of the evil spirits. In a further study we will teach how to identify between good and evil. I guess we should look first at the scripture in 1 Corinthians ch10 v19-20 and see what Paul says about the presence of idols and what we worship when we worship idols (or put anything, or desires before God). What do you think happens when we place any thing not of God in our lives? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ It is our intention now to consider the scriptures and what they state regarding to the temple of God in Jerusalem during the time when Israel was held captive in Babylon. So without further delay let us do just that.
Read 2 Chronicles ch 33 Manassah set up idols in both the outer courts and in the inner courts of the temple and whereas he later repented and destroyed them all it does not alter the fact that the idols were there and consequently the spirits were there Please read Ezekiel ch 8 Horrifying as it may be we need to investigate just what in reality is described in these scriptures! In the first instance we have an idol which provokes to jealousy inside the door. And according to 1 Corinthians 10 then there would be a spirit at the spot. But wait there's more. We are then taken to a wall (the defences) and told to dig into the wall and we find that there are seventy of the Elders burning incense to the images of crawling things and detestable animals. They were saying that they were hidden from God. What sort of defence against the enemy is a wall which has been hollowed out and full of idols? _____ But wait there's more. We are then taken to the north gate to see women mourning for Tammuz. Tummuz was supposed to have been a reincarnation of Nimrod, the one who introduced the teachings of Hermes (astrology). And then finally we are shown in the inner court of the house of God facing away from the holy place worshipping the sun and of course in verse 17 putting the branch to their nose (sniffing drugs) Chapter 9 tells of God's destruction of those who were involved in all these detestable practices but suffice for us to say that God had tolerated these things for some time before venting his anger. In like manner we are the temple of God and the Holy Spirit dwells in us. We are God's temple. I guess that some of us who haven't encounted displays of demonic activity tend to brush these things under the carpet and push away the idea that we ourselves could be affected in any way Both the fundamental who throw out all spiritual activity and the super spiritual who welcome all spirit activity without question. Extreme danger is in both camps It is important that we recognise the need to break any bondages or curses etc and ensure that there is no legal claim for each one of us to be under the influence of evil spirits.
Let us ensure that no demons have a right to attach themselves to us And let each one of us make every effort to get rid of those that could be there
