The Godship of Christ Biblical Deliverance Ministries Study Five
From time to time we get challenged concerning our Lord and the opposition is very clever to twist scripture to take away from the very Godship of Christ in one form or another. Sometimes people are encouraged to consider themselves to be able to become equal with God or alternately to try to discredit the deity of our Lord and present Him as a lesser being. This of course is nonsense and we shall look at some scriptures to see why. It is important to realise at the outset that Christ chose to take up the position as the Son to enable us ,you and I, to be able to comprehend just a little of the concept of God. Who do you think John is talking about when he speaks of the Word in John ch1 v1? _______________________________________________________ Who then is the "Him" spoken of in Ch1 v2? _______________________________________________________ How is it possible to be with some one and be someone? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ Why do you think that satan, who used scripture to tempt our Lord, did not challenge the commandment in Luke ch4 v8? _______________________________________________________ If we are to worship the one and only one God, why did Jesus accept worship? John ch9 v38 -- _______________________________________________________ Why do you think that the Lord accepted the testimony of Thomas in John ch20 v28? _______________________________________________________
Remember that Jesus not only stated but showed that he had the attributes of God. See Matthew ch18 v20 - Mark ch11 v2-6 - Matthew ch28 v18 In Isaiah ch7 v14 there is a prophecy concerning a man born of a virgin. "His name shall be called Immanuel. What was the meaning of that name in Matthew ch1 v23? Read the following. John ch14 v9 - John ch8 v14 - John ch5 v23. These passages refer to seeing , knowing, and honouring God. (Similar passages exist with regard to believing, receiving, even hating God.). What do these words imply about the significance of our attitude to Christ? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________
Read Isaiah ch9 v6 - Exodus ch3 v14 - John ch8 v58 What do they state about the relationship between Jesus and the God of the Old Testament? _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ The works of Jesus include: Knowing the thoughts and intents of men (Matthew ch9 v4) Forgiving sin (which God alone can do) (Mark ch2 v5-7) Sustaining all things (Hebrews ch1) Creating all things (Hebrews ch1) and so on. The prophecy in Micah ch5 v2 tells us of the coming ruler of Israel whose origins (going out) are from of old, from ancient times. (from the days of eternity) The Messiah Saviour was to be the eternal omnipresent. GOD HIMSELF. In Exodus ch3 v14 God spoke out of the burning bush and said "I AM that I Am" and you shall say to the children of Israel "I Am has sent me to you." Who do you think Jesus was claiming to be when He said "before Abraham was I AM" If then Jesus claimed to be God, how then could He be a good man? He would have to be either the Holy God He claimed to be or an impostor. If he was an impostor then how was He able to forgive sins? Something that God alone can do. Hebrews ch1 speaks of the establishment of the concept of the Son of God designed especially for the salvation of souls. We are taught that all should be under Him. We should consider that this letter is written to the Hebrews and as such there is a need to establish that the person they had crucified was in fact the Son of God. Let us consider the first few verses in Hebrews ch1. These verses should be viewed as a group and we shall see that God Himself has made it possible for an exact representation of His being to be seen by humans, bearing the punishment on the cross for our sins, making it possible for us to have fellowship again with God. This part of God, (Jesus Christ) the one who is the radiance of Gods glory, the one who sustains all things by His powerful word, was set in place at the right hand of the majesty in heaven. So to enable our sin to be dealt with God took upon Himself human form yet remained the deity He always has been, taking up the position as the Son of God. This to people with a history as miraculous as that of the Jews, clearly puts Him in a position which is far superior than that of the angels. It could not be said then, that He was in any way equal to any angel or fallen angel. HE THE LORD JESUS CHRIST WAS, IS AND EVER WILL BE, THE EXPRESSION OF GOD HIMSELF TO US IN THIS DAY AND AGE. The only way we have access to God is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary. Take particular notice of the initial verses in ch2 of Hebrews and write down what steps you have taken to have this great salvation. _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________
