Satan’s beachheads.

Study Three

The last two studies have led us up and down questioning and exploring our foundation. Almost shaking the very roots of where we stand in Christ. The intent of this has not been to undermine our security but to explore and build a stronger and more permanent belief system on the very core of our salvation. The complete and utter atonement for our sins and indeed our whole life should never be in question. I trust that as we have explored these issues we have comprehended more deeply things concerning our faith. If we don't have an extremely strong faith in Christ we will soon falter when we come under attack.

Let's go on and think now about how we allow satan the right to oppress us. I suppose in some ways this study should come after the one on the armour of God but it is impossible to cover everything at one time. Consider Job. He was a man who was righteous in all his ways and satan challenged God for the right to test him. Obviously satan has access to state his claims before God.

Let's look at a couple of verses. Revelation ch12 v7.

Who do you understand is the dragon and his angels?

In verse 9 of the same chapter we are told what his work has been. What do you think it is?

______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

Following along in the same chapter verse 10 we are told of four things for our defence. What are they?

How can these four things be used to defend ourselves?

Further in verse 10 it says the accuser is active. What do you think his work is to do?

______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

In verse 11 we are told how to overcome. How would you apply this today?

______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

In Zechariah ch3 v1 we see Joshua standing before the angel of God. What was the purpose of satan standing alongside?

______________________________________________________

When you consider the following verses, what would you consider the filthy clothes signified?

______________________________________________________

Here we see a man, Joshua, clothed with filthy rags (sin) and satan standing ready to accuse him.

It is highly apparent that satan is in a position to accuse us before God. A God who is just and holy and keeps his word. Obviously we need to live a life which is beyond repute so that satan has nowhere to point the finger.

What does it mean in Ephesians ch4 v27 by 'foothold'?

______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

What does satan do in 1 Peter ch5 v8?

______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

Do you think that satan would have a legal right to oppress us when we sin and if so how do we deal with the problem? See again Zechariah ch3 v4&5

______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

What is the result of dealing with this in our lives?

______________________________________________________

______________________________________________________

There are many lists of sins in the Scriptures. Do you believe it is only major sins which hurt our God?

______________________________________________________

What is the difference between major and minor sins?

______________________________________________________

I John ch1 v9 says "If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". Do you think it is fair to go out and commit the same sin again? _______________

How many times do you think you should do this? _______________

Do you think that if we love Jesus Christ as we ought we would continue to do those things that displease Him? ________________________

If I were to invite you into my home and proceeded to take one glass freshly cleansed and another with a mess and a couple of cockroaches in the bottom, fill them with water and offer you a drink which one would you prefer?

______________________________________________________

Jesus Christ would like to use each one of us freshly cleansed. He is willing to take us (the dirty glass) clean us out and use us to extend His kingdom. We ought to be completely open and willing for Him to dig down to the bottom of the glass.

    To sum up:

It seems to me that when we commit sin, either on a regular basis, or knowing that it is not according to God's word or the leading of His Holy Spirit, then we open ourselves up to satan's accusations to God. Satan is a legalist and knows his right to us or any part of us which we do not hand over to God. In fact, when we sin, we give satan a right to oppress us (or enter) as you choose to believe. The outcome is the same. We cannot be part of working for the expansion of His kingdom.

During the war, when armed forces were able to land on a beach of the country they were invading and establish a base there, it was called a beachhead. The next step of course was to expand and take over more territory. This is exactly how satan works. He will expand his territory once he gets in and cause us to turn away completely from living a life as a christian should. The horror of all this is we, often enough, willingly give satan his right to a beach head by persisting in a sin, in rebellion against the leading of the Holy Spirit or any other sin as small as it might be. Keep short accounts with God. Daily - hourly - minutely if need be. Repentance means turning around and going the other way, that is, towards God not away from Him. Be ever on the alert (remember 1 Peter ch5 v8) with swords drawn ready to do battle.
