An everlasting covenant Biblical Deliverance Ministries I suppose that security in our lives could be regarded as many things. It could be money or the ownership of a home or even a relationship with another person either a partner or even our family. To be accurate we generally put our trust or dependence on something or someone we can depend on. Money -- The piece of paper which we call a dollar is nothing more or less than a document stating that the reserve bank will provide the equivalent in cash if required to. -- An agreement or covenant. A home or land ownership is an agreement with the crown for the owner's name to be registered at the Lands and Deeds office. A marriage is an agreement between two people signed in front of witnesses. A family is where a person is born to particular parents and registered in the Justice dept in their permanent records. Each one of us are involved with agreements or covenants in one way or another. They seem to have become a major part of our lives. In fact I would suggest to you that they are a foundation which we have built our justice system on. A system which gives us such things as freedom to live as we do. I guess these standards or covenant systems stem from the pattern set by God. He made a covenant with Abraham concerning his offspring which is still in place. In fact, it was an everlasting covenant recorded diligently in the Old Testament (old covenant). Likewise He has made an everlasting covenant offered to us in the New Testament (new covenant). This covenant is the foundation of the church. This covenant was made by Jesus Christ when He died on the cross at Calvary ---- It is an unconditional covenant and ought to be accepted as the foundation of each and every person alive today. Paul states emphatically that there is no other foundation that can be laid apart from the foundation of Jesus Christ. To delve a little further we see that it is through Jesus Christ that we are saved, not through any good works which we may happen to do. In John ch10 v27-29 We are told that Jesus Christ will never leave us and Father God will never leave us. 2 Corinthians ch1 v22 We are told that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. This seal is God's seal on the contract and it cannot be broken. God has done it. It is important to remember that when we make our commitment to Jesus Christ our names are written in the Lamb's book of life, a writing that cannot be wiped out. God does not use twink. Revelation ch21 v27 tells us only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life can enter heaven. As a christian we rejoice that our names are written in heaven. Luke ch10 v20 Ephesians ch2 v8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved through faith ---- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God --- not by works so that no one can boast. He does love us just so much but yet He is just and righteous. The essence of salvation. Standing in the Gap. The forgiveness of sin!!!! What is sin? -- Breaking God's Law? -- Romans ch3 v23-24 tells us "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but we can be justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ". There are many counterfeit teachings offering all sorts of diversions to take us away from the simple love of God. Counterfeit miracles, counterfeit healings, counterfeit resurrections, counterfeit Gods, even to say that sin does not exist or every thing is all right depending on your own convictions etc but no one can forgive sins but God alone. The first of the ten commandments says: "You shall have no other Gods before Me." Probably this is the most wide ranging. It means that if we put any thing including ourselves before God in our minds then we are surpassing the place of God in our lives. Or thinking that we are Gods - God is in every thing - God is every thing. God says in I Timothy ch2 v5 "For there is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus who gave himself as a ransom for all men." Or perhaps we may think that if we are good that we may come back to a better life as someone else. God has said "It is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgment" . There are many things stated in the scriptures which define sin, most very obvious, but there are some which the Lord God almighty expressly finds detestable. Let's read Deuteronomy ch18 v9-12 "When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you." Having read that it is important to realise that all is not lost God has made a way of escape. We are offered everlasting life. An everlasting covenant. There are many scriptures which tell us what God has done to enable us to have this foundation of salvation. The most widely known is, of course, John ch3 v16 . We are told that God loves us so much He sent His son Jesus Christ to earth to identify with man. When He allowed Himself to be killed a murderer's death He did it out of love for us. Isaiah ch53 v5 But He (Jesus) was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities: the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. In those three hours of darkness He accepted the penalty of our sin. He, The Son of God, when He decided to stay on the cross at Calvary, made it possible for us (you and I) to have forgiveness for sin .Ready access to God and no fear of death. Hebrews ch2 v 3-4 How shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will. We all have a choice. Repent of our sin. Accept Jesus Christ. Choose everlasting life through Christ or everlasting death by declining Christ. You have freedom to choose. Jesus Christ, apart from all the physical sufferings which He endured, could have stepped down from the cross. But He didn't, because He loved you and me. God punished Him for your sin and my sin so we could have no fear of the presence of a Holy God. We can enjoy God's love and compassion trusting in the only true almighty God.
An everlasting life with Christ.
