The Water Supplier
A man bought some land and decided to build a house upon it. Close to the house was a spring. The man every morning would take his bucket and walk to the spring and bring it back to the house and give it to his family. He did this for many months and then one day he said, ‘I’ve had enough of this walking backwards and forwards with this heavy bucket of water. I’m going to build an aqueduct. It will take the spring water directly to my house and all I have to do is turn on the tap and water will come from the pipes.’ And so he did.
In the morning as his family would wake, turn the tap and water would flow and this was fine for quite a few months and then all of a sudden the water started to slow. The man said, ‘Ooh it’s just leaves. Leaves in the aqueduct, because this is the time of year that the leaves fall.’ So he went to clean out the aqueduct. There were no leaves in there and he followed it to the end and the spring had slowed. It had not stopped, it had slowed, so the man went back to the house and they continued to drink until the water stopped.
‘What am I to do?’ he said. ‘Now we have no water.’ The side of the house with the old bucket, that he used to take to the spring and bring back to the house, and it was full of water. He took the bucket inside and they all drank from it. He put the empty bucket outside and in the morning it was full again. ‘Goodness!’ he said ‘Maybe it’s God that has filled this bucket.’ And then the rain came and he said ‘No, it’s not God. It’s the rainy season so it’s just the rain that is filling up this bucket.’ And so he put it out and it filled with water and when the rainy season ended the bucket was empty.
Just at this time his brother came to visit from this land far away. He said to his brother, ‘We have run out of water.’ And his brother pulled out a very large jug of water from under the saddle of his mule. ‘Here, have some of this.’ ‘Don’t be cruel to my family that they see all this water but they cannot have more. They can only have what you have here.’ He said, ‘You are foolish brother. For our Father, He owns a reservoir of water just up the road.’ ‘But I have never spoken to Him for so long,’ he said. ‘He would not give us water.’ ‘Why do you not go and see Him? He will give you water.’ ‘No. I will not go and talk to Him. He will not give me any.’ And his brother left.
Then it seems that the family is getting very thirsty and he knew that he should go and see his Father. And so he made the journey and his Father was pleased to see him. ‘Come in,’ He said, ‘Son.’ and He made him welcome. ‘But I have not talked to You for so long,’ he said. His Father said, ‘You are talking to Me now and that is all that is important. Here. take all the water you need,’ He said. And he went back with full bottles of water for his family.
The next day he walked out into his garden. In the corner he saw the old bucket and he said, ‘Father, who I have not talked to for a long time, forgive me for not believing it was You who filled that bucket.’
And the bucket was never empty again.
For as I am your Father so was his. It is not important if I am not talked to so long as you do talk, for I shall forgive your sin.
There is no sin that I shall not forgive if you ask. Have faith that the bucket will be full instead of looking for an answer why it was full. Just accept it was full and it shall remain full. There are too many that will look for logical answers when there are no logical answers. Merely accept it as full and drink it. That’s all this man had to do.
